¤ All About Debbie ¤

Last week from the 11 May to the 17 May was Volunteer Apreciation Week. I realized myself what was significant about that week when I got to the Salvos to do my usual weekly volunteer day.

To me it was just another week but for others it was a way to show us volunteers how we are apreciated of all our hard work we put in just for doing what we love to do every day we volunteer.

I have been volunteering at my local Salvation Army now for nearly a year and the whole time I have enjoyed working there even though it isnt paid work.  I don't do it to get anything out of it but I do do it because I enjoy helping my local cummunity and the enjoyment of serving and being there for people who need our help even if I just help with sorting any donations that come in which include clothing, furniture and electrical goods etc and selling donated goods back into the community at a reasonble cheap price that anyone can afford to buy (^_^).

On this particular Friday we had a special treat for morning tea in the form of some small cakes for us to have with our coffee or tea. I don't normally have morning tea but on this particular day I did as I thought "Hey! why not, this day only comes around once a year so what's wrong in treating myself with a small bit of chocolate cake and a cup of tea"  lol

Afterwards I thought nothing more of it and went back to work doing my usual duty (thinking that was the last of the treats we would get today) making sure the shop was tidy and putting out more stock, I even had a chance of being on the cash register that afternoon as one of the ladies who normaly does the register on Fridays was away so I got to do one of the jobs I love doing as I don't get the chance much lately as I have been getting put onto shop stock when the big boss is in (for some reason she things I am better at re-stock and tidying the shop) lol, oh well! it doesn't worry me that much as I do get the chance sometimes to do one of the best duties in the store .

At the end of the day when we had closed up shop and was readying to go home the store manager asked me to come with him to the office as he had something to give me. I discovered it was a certificate he had for me as with the other volunteers had recieved as well to show how apreciative the managers were of us volunteers and our hard work and choosing to continue to volunteer and give our time to help in the shop. As well as the certificate we were also given a small treat of Ferrerro Rocher chocolates YAY!! The manager normally always shows his apreciation of how well we had worked during the day but having a certificate to show for it was a great idea and greatly apreciated, it showed how much they enjoy our work in choosing to take time out of our lives to give up a few hours each week for no pay.
